About Cate

I’m a middle school science and PE teacher in Daly City, CA (right next to San Francisco). I run a lot, love vegetables, read books whenever I find the time, and take way too many pictures of food. Oh, and my husband Mike and I are the proud parents of the cutest baby girl in the world, born September 12, 2011.

Mike and I spent a year traveling and teaching English in Asia in 2009 and it was pretty much the best year of my life. Not only did I eat a ridiculous amount of amazing food, I also discovered how much I love teaching and decided to stop eating meat.

Now that we’re home I cook healthy vegetarian recipes (and some not-so-healthy desserts), shop obsessively at ethnic grocery stores and natural food co-ops, and dream about Thai street food.

I love hearing from readers…so drop me an email! catesworldkitchen@gmail.com

  • I’ve been living in Seoul for ten months, and, left to my own devices, I’ve been eating the same three things: mandoo, tuna with mayo, and pasta with tuna and mayo.
I’ll try some of your ideas, seeing as I have none of my own :)
And I’ll subscribe too, as soon as I figure that out….
    Nice work!

  • Hi Cate,
I just love all your recipes—I”ve been a vegetarian for about 30yr. so I can totally adapt any recipe. PLEASE keep up the good work.

  • Oregonians know it best! I grew up in Corvallis, went to UP and then moved to Australia. I totally know what you mean about wanting to see the world through food…it’s my life as well. I am followin you for sure!

    Hi Cate!

I was just googling “pumkin, coconut milk and chocolate chips”…looking for recipes to play with. Found yours and noticed your name. Wanted to say hi!

  • Wow, you are so lucky! I got bit by the travel bug in high school and went to Croatia and Brazil. Then I got married and had a baby– that kind of puts things on hold. Have fun teaching in Korea!

Your grandmother Betty Wise wrote us about your blog in her Christmas letter. World cuisines, baking, and cooking interest me a lot. Your blog is fascinating. Keep up the good work!

Cate – Congrats! Finally a web site with recipes that I spent hours just browsing (and putting on the menu for the week)! I travel a lot and half of what I like to do is eat and cook everything along the way. (fried bamboo worms in Thailand). You’ve got a fan in Breckenridge, Colorado!

  • Hi Cate,
Just stopping by to say thanks for ‘adopting’ me.

  • Love the blog, and your awesome story.
I just started a blog too, and am always on the lookout for more kitchen inspiration. Thanks so much for sharing!

  • Love your site and what you’re doing. Great to see you’re using Asian influences in your cooking. Head on over to my blog for some ideas on veggies. My background in teaching word processing and many other hats have helped me with figuring out how to make cooking creative and fun vs following recipes. I know this is how I enjoy cooking and it’s what excites me to share it with others.

  • Hi Cate, I like your site, keep it up. Will keep your site on my blogroll. :)

CATE! My name is Cate too, and my greatest loves are running and cooking. I also wanted to start a blog about both of those things. No idea how I found your site, but I’m happy I did.

Woweeeee, the internet is so cool! Thanks for the inspiration. Can’t wait to try some of your recipes.

    Hi Cate,

I love your blog. I have been following for several months now and feel that I need to leave you a comment! I’m Canadian living in Uganda for work. I was recently bitten by a spider (this story has a point, I swear) and had to get the bite on my leg drained and cleaned and now I have to get the hole in my leg unpacked and packed with clean gauze daily. So I am house-bound because I can’t really walk and I’m too lazy to be working from home. I’ve just spent the last hour or so reading through your past blog posts – and they are all great! I really love the stories that accompany your wonderful photos and recipes. My spirits have been instantly lifted in the past hour and I am inspired to try out many of your recipes. I also really love to run (which I wont be doing for a few weeks while my leg heals…sigh) and I’m really excited that you’ll be run/walking Boston. I can’t wait to hear about it!

Thanks for your blog and for lifting my spirits today!

    All the best,
    Deborah

  • Hi Cate,

Really enjoyed your site … I have been checking out sites to find recipe’s for diabetics. I sometimes cook for people who are diabetic and are Carb counters, finding it hard to cook for them.

May God continue to bless you, your family, and all of your endeavors.

    Cate-

I really enjoy your blog and love your recipes, I especially like the one bowl vanilla cake recipe, it’s my go to for a quick cake or cupcakes. I just love the fact that you’ve personally made all these recipes yourself and can give tips and feedback on them. Please keep it up!

    Regards,
    Kyra
