Astoria, Oregon

When we decided to go to Oregon for our first vacation in years, Mike was pretty adamant that we had to go to Astoria. More specifically, we had to go to the Goondocks.

I didn’t see The Goonies until I was 23, but it was a staple movie in Mike’s childhood.  Seeing the house from the movie was pretty thrilling for him.

But it turns out there is some other pretty fun stuff in Atoria, too.  We stopped by the Chamber of Commerce on the way into town, and the lady working was extremely helpful.  She not only showed us exactly how to get to the Goonies house, she also recommended a great lunch spot.

Blue Scorcher was everything I love in a restaurant.  Vegetarian, organic, super kid-friendly, and a really nice staff.  I had a tempeh reuben, Mike had a portobello, goat cheese and arugula sandwich, and Ellie had the toddler plate, which came with raspberries, cheese, rice, and beans.  She also spent a good 20 minutes thoroughly enjoying their play area.

Just down the block from the restaurant was the Fort George Brewery Tap Room.

We sampled some beer and Mike took a tour of the brewery.  They had foosball, shuffleboard, and cornhole in addition to awesome beer.  We picked up a growler of Nut Red Ale to take back to Portland.

On our way out of town, we drove up to the Astoria column for some amazing views.

Definitely a totally worthwhile day trip from Portland!
