This weekend, my sister ran her fourth marathon!
My parents came down from Portland to watch, and we definitely kept busy. On Friday we went to Lou’s Cafe for sandwiches, and I had an AMAZING vegetarian sandwich.
Then we went to the San Francisco Botanical Garden, and my inner bio nerd came out with a vengeance. I loved my college botany classes.
Saturday we stopped at Sunflower Vietnamese Restaurant which has a bunch of vegetarian-friendly menu options, including a ridiculously delicious (and huge) bowl of vegetable noodle soup.
After picking up Emily’s race stuff at the marathon expo, we went into North Beach for dinner at Firenze by Night. I’m not usually that excited by Italian food, but it was the best gnocchi I’ve ever had!
Sunday morning we all woke up at 4 AM to get Emily to the start of the race in time. After dropping her off in her corral, we walked up the Embarcadero a little ways to watch the start.
The weather was perfect – not too warm or cold, and not too windy. As soon as she ran by we drove out to Golden Gate Park so we could see her at mile 12 and 16.
We saw Emily, Aron, Alyssa, and Courtney looking strong! Then we headed back down to the Embarcadero to watch the finish.
Emily beat that guy! After getting her medal, we met up in the beer garden so she could celebrate properly.
Unfortunately she had to fly home last night because she had class today, but it was a super fun weekend! I forgot how much fun spectating for marathons can be, and it was great to see some friends run new PRs!
