My sister is in town for the whole week, which means she’s baking all sorts of good stuff, doing our dishes, and advising us on interior decoration because we’ve been in this house for over 3 weeks and have yet to hang a single picture on our walls.

I really like having a little sister, because she’s pretty easy-going and generally does what I want her to do. “Hey Emily, pose by that tree, I’m going to take a picture of you!” She’s a trooper, for sure.
Although we pretty much hated each other until high school, we now appreciate each other and actually have some things in common.

Aside from our obvious life-long fashion prowess, we both really like running (especially while wearing ties, in Korea).

We’re pretty competitive, which is good, because I probably wouldn’t have signed up for my third marathon if she hadn’t beaten my PR. She might not have signed up for the San Francisco marathon if she hadn’t been there to see me run Boston. It works out pretty well for both of us.
We are also obsessed with completely over-done and cliche jumping pictures.

I’m not sure which one of us came up with the idea of putting pretzels and M & Ms together in these blondies, but it was a good one. Emily did all the work and I took the pictures.

I don’t want to tell you how quickly we ate the entire pan. That’s another thing we have in common… we can consume excessive quantities of dessert at a frightening pace.

Recipe:
(adapted from Smitten Kitchen)
1 stick butter, melted
1 cup brown sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
Pinch salt
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup roughly chopped pretzels
1 cup M & Ms
Preheat the oven to 350 F and grease an 8″ square pan.
Beat the melted butter and brown sugar together in a stand mixer. Add the egg and vanilla and mix well.
Stir in the flour and salt, followed by the pretzels and M & Ms, mixing until just combined.
Spread in prepared pan and bake for about 22 minutes, or until set in the middle and golden brown on top (slightly underbaked is better than over-baked!)
Cool completely on a wire rack before cutting into squares to serve.

OMG THESE LOOK AMAZING!!! And it doesn’t seem too complicated (for even me), maybe I’ll make these one of these days!!!
BTW, “I really like having a little sister, because she’s pretty easy-going and generally does what I want her to do.” sounds like something that came out of my own sister’s mouth. Haha, us younger sisters don’t want to get in trouble.
These look really delicious… i could imagine the sweet and salty combo… one of my favorites. Nice job!
Y’all are fantastic
These are now bookmarked: they look super easy & fun (and only one dish, yay). You can also use the “holiday” colored M&M’s so they can become seasonal and festive!!

I love that you and your sister share a love of running!
I showed my niece photos of these blondies and she made me promise to make them with her – they look so yummy!
Your sister is super cute and the blondies look delicious. However – is there a dude puking behind you guys in the Korea race picture?
2 things:
This blog makes me hungry.
This Emily character seems pretty cool.
Bridget – I’m pretty sure he just poured water over his head…but I never noticed that!
