Memorable Memorial Day Weekend

Mike and I have been debating whether I should separate recipe posts from life posts… I feel like since this is a cooking blog, I have to have a recipe pretty much every time I post. He says that sometimes I should just write about what I’m doing, and if it doesn’t have much to do with cooking, post it anyway. So that’s what’s happening here.

We drove back to San Luis Obispo for the weekend. It’s always good to go back. Especially to my favorite grocery store in the entire world. Every town should have a Co-op like this!

Then we went out to Baywood for Thai Take-Out. I’m incredibly picky about Thai food, but this was pretty good.

My tofu Pad Kee Mow was pretty tasty.

Saturday night we went to a barbecue with our friends, and since I’m completely lame and far too easily distracted by food, this is the only picture I took.

My friend Steve and I had a riveting discussion about baking whole grain bread…in particular why we both messed it up recently. Still trying to figure out how to get a really good loaf of 100% whole grain bread but I feel like Peter Reinhart has all the answers.

The rest of the weekend went unpictured, but included lots of knitting, napping, and eating potato salad. I’m a party animal these days.

We agreed a couple weeks ago that we’d stop for produce on the way back up to the Bay Area. Cherry season is the best part of the year and I needed a fix.

We bought lots of cherries, which unfortunately are already gone. No self control.

One farm stand wasn’t enough… we also got sucked into Garlic World, where Mike enthusiastically tried some garlic ice cream. I want to say it was good, but I’m not sure that’s the best adjective to use. Intriguing? Different? Still working on it.

And now the weekend is over, and I’m sad. But here’s a gratuitous bump shot since it’s been a few weeks and I’m definitely bigger!

I have about a million strawberries in the fridge right now, so for those of you that are here for the recipes, I’ll hopefully have a good one for you tomorrow using some of them!

  • Garlic World – now that sounds like my kind of shop!!

  • You’ve got great pictures and many times they are food related, so I think it is totally okay not to have a recipe.

  • Girl, you look SO good! :) No recipe, no problem, as far as I’m concerned. I love to see what bloggers are up to outside the kitchen. Keep up the great work!

  • Awww cute baby belly! I love the life stuff. Plus, there’s still food and really it’s your blog :)

  • Kamaile

Garlic ice cream?! That Thai food looks very tasty. You look radiant!

  • Sounds like it was a really nice long weekend! I know what you mean about sometimes feeling like you need to blog about food, but wanting to blog about other stuff, too. That’s why I started a new blog, becasue after a few years I was pretty burned out on only talking food. I still blog some recipes, but also lots of life stuff. I’m thinking once we have a kid it’ll be a nice all around family blog. Maybe you should keep your World Kitchen, but also start a life blog? About the baby, and running, and fun stuff you guys are up to… Just a thought :)

    Happy Friday!

  • I for one like your life posts!

  • Cate I am STILL trying to figure out that bread! I’ll have to look into your Peter Reinhart suggestion and cross my fingers…
