I just got back from a few days in Portland with the fam. Although I’m pretty sure I’ll never live there again, I LOVE going back to visit. I had a ton of good food and went for some fantastic runs while I was there.
All four members of the family are runners, so running shoes are kind of taking over the house. The four of us did a hilly 3 mile loop together, which was awesome. I don’t get to run with them enough.
My sister, dad, and I also did a fabulous 10 mile run along the Willamette River. It was my last long run before Boston (and I think I can’t really hide the bump anymore!)
Obviously, as always, there’s a lot of food involved in my trips home. The first meal once I landed was at the awesome Grilled Cheese Grill.
Like you would expect, they have a ton of different grilled cheese sandwiches, but they also have the Cheesus, which is a hamburger between 2 grilled cheese sandwiches instead of on a bun. Insane.
My sister’s friend cooks at Park Kitchen, and although he wasn’t working when we went, we had a great meal.
I didn’t take any pictures of the food because it was so dim inside, but we got a ton of plates to share and pretty much everything was really good. They do a lot of unusual combinations (like chocolate cake with frozen parsnip custard), so you’ll definitely end up trying stuff you’ve never had before.
I have a habit of always going back to the same places again and again, so I tried to visit as many new places as possible during this trip, but I just could not resist lunch at Clyde Common.
I got flatbread with salad, pine nuts, golden raisins, white bean puree, and ricotta salata. It was good, but the standout of the meal was definitely the cauliflower soup that my mom got with her sandwich.
Our final meal was going to be at Tasty and Sons, but when we were hungry at 7:30, it seemed ridiculous to wait for them to open at 9, so we went to Jam on Hawthorne.
My family is special.
Every time I go to breakfast I have such a hard time deciding between something savory and something sweet. This time savory won out.
A 3-egg scramble with spinach, mushrooms, and roasted garlic, with LOTS of hash browns on the side. Completely covered with ketchup and hot sauce, naturally.
However, because I’m so indecisive, my dad let me have a few bites of this beautiful french toast!
Like all my trips to Portland, this one felt way too short, and I’m not sure when I’ll be back. I had to make room in the closet when I got home because Kidlet is already accumulating a wardrobe thanks to the great-grandparents!
