I just put about a cup and a half or two cups of dried beans in the slow cooker, cover with 3 inches of water, and cook over low. After 3 hours I stir in a small spoonful of salt, then start checking for doneness after 4 (just by tasting a bean). Some days I can't get to them til 7 or 8 hours later and they kind of fall apart, but that doesn't really bother me. They're usually done in 5 or 6 hours.

I often make my own veggie burgers and patties, and I find that if you use ground oats instead of flour, and let the mixture sit in the fridge for at least a half hour before forming the patties, that they'll hold together better. Hope this helps!
